The additional funding provided through the Pupil Premium catch-up premium was introduced by the Government in order to help schools close the gap between the attainment of students from disadvantaged backgrounds and others at all educational stages.

Our financial benchmarking profile

We delivered a short summer school programme to support the physical and mental wellbeing of our most vulnerable students. 32 students attended over 6 days.

The biggest issues for our students were not being able to see teachers and friends face to face and the lack of structure and routine during the pandemic. In order to address this we ran a ‘normal’ school timetable for the students.

The students all came to school as they would on a standard school day on the PTS transport, they went to their classrooms with staff that they knew, had lunch provided for them and ate in their usual dining area with their friends and familiar staff. During the day planned, structured events were timetabled that put the emphasis on physical and mental wellbeing, as this was the area that the students missed out on during the pandemic. Activities included team games in football and cricket, cooperation games with the parachute and balls, access to the adapted bikes, use of the sensory activity playground and cookery sessions to teach healthy eating – the banana smoothies were a hit!

This offered an important opportunity for us to support our students’ mental health and well being, following the significant amount of lost time in face to face education.  £15,119 was spent on staffing and food costs and the full amount was funded by the Department for Education.
