Autumn

What have students learned before that make them ready to learn this now?

As part of KS3 PSD Living in the Wider World students explored jobs that people do around them including those at school and in the wider community. During Year 9 students also had opportunities to recognise their personal skills for learning. This supports students to embark on an enterprise project. Students will use their understanding of a job combined with their personal skills to develop their own seasonal enterprise project.

How will what they are learning now prepare them for what they need to learn next?

Students will learn about the role of the maker, seller and the customer. They will recognise and develop their personal skills by taking on a specific role in the designing and delivery of an Enterprise project. Recognition of their own skills, qualities and working as a team will prepare each student to start the Co-op Young Leaders Programme.

What have students learned before that make them ready to learn this now?

Students recognise their skills and qualities following taking part in an Enterprise project. This term students build on their knowledge of what their own strengths are as well as those of others. They start to develop an understanding of what makes an effective leader, supported by Co-op Education. Students will complete 20 hours of leadership over the next 2 terms to become a Co-op Young Leader. This work will see them develop team skills through problem solving and challenges, with an opportunity to consider areas for personal development.

How will what they are learning now prepare them for what they need to learn next?

Students will lead a project which will make a difference to the school community. This will be initiated by the Co-op central team. Students will learn about organisation, communication and motivational skills whilst undertaking the project. They will design, implement and reflect on the effectiveness of their project. This school based improvement project will prepare students to deliver a transition programme to Year 6 students at Southfield’s feeder schools next term.

What have students learned before that make them ready to learn this now?

Students have gained their Step into Leadership Co-op Young Leaders Award. They have taken part in both Enterprise and voluntary work. They have an understanding of their personal strengths. Students start to think beyond school to explore roles and work which interest them.

How will what they are learning now prepare them for what they need to learn next?

Students learn about different roles people take on in adult life in relation to jobs: worker, parent, volunteer, fundraiser. They share their aspirations and research what this entails and what roles would match their skills. They challenge stereotypes in the workplace. Students participate in activities to apply for jobs, write an email of interest, have an interview to share their skills. This is in preparation for next term when students look at other adult destinations other than work.
